Safety Switches (RCDs)
RCDs are mandatory in all Australian homes. If your home was built before the 1990s, it may not have RCDs — a serious safety risk.
⚠️ Watch out: Test your safety switches every 3 months. A safety switch that doesn't trip must be replaced immediately.
Smoke Alarms
All Australian states now require photoelectric smoke alarms. Test monthly, replace batteries annually, replace units every 10 years.
When to Call an Electrician
- 1 Tripping circuit breakers
- 2 Flickering or dimming lights
- 3 Sparking outlets or burning smell
- 4 Any new circuit or outlet installation
